Three MRH Teachers Achieve National Board Certification
MRH High teachers Cheryl Carmon, math and Derek Rowley, English, along with MRH Elementary gifted education teacher Dan Lyons have joined a very exclusive group of American educators. They are National Board Certified teachers.
Less than two percent of all American teachers have National Board Certification, which is administered by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Carmon, Rowley and Lyons join MRH Elementary assistant principal Jennifer Collins and MRH High counselor Kelly Metcalf as certified educators.
The NBPTS offers experienced teachers the professional development opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and practices against high and rigorous standards. As a result of the National Board Certification process, teachers demonstrate that they meet the highest standards for their profession through a demanding performance assessment.
For the newly-certified teachers, the new designation means much more than a title. "I know more about myself and my teaching because of this process, " said Lyons. "It was really a personal journey of looking at myself truthfully and seeing areas that I can improve in and areas that I am strong in."
A new group of MRH teachers is currently pursuing National Board Certification and many others have expressed interest in pursuing the certification in the future.
