Board of Education Hosting Town Hall Meetings
The public is invited to attend two special Town Hall meetings hosted by the MRH School Board to examine important financial and facility information. In 2007 the district will be in a unique financial situation: the voters could approve this coming April both a tax levy and bond issue that would result in no increase in the school tax rate. The Board wants input on this important issue as they make their decision about this opportunity.
In the past seven years MRH has made substantial improvements in its academic program, athletic and activity offerings, facilities, and in recruiting and keeping high quality teachers. Today we see consistently improving test scores, partnerships with major universities, and state recognition for improved academics and outstanding professional development. Seven years ago 50% of the students who could attend MRH chose not to do so. Today that number has been reduced to 25%. These dramatic changes are a result of the MRH community’s investment in and commitment to its schools.
The MRH Board of Education asks the public to continue in the dialogue about the future of the district. The first town hall meeting will take place on Thursday, December 7 at the Early Childhood Center on Oakland from 7 to 9 p.m. At this meeting we will tour the building, examine long-range financial projections, review the facility charges given to the district by members of PACT I in 2001 and PACT II in 2003, review our progress made on these agendas, and explore the option of a tax levy and bond issue that would not increase the tax levy rate.
The second town hall meeting will continue this conversation. We will meet at the high school in the cafeteria from 7 to 9 p.m. on January 3. We will tour the building, review the list of projects remaining and prioritize a list of next steps in facilities improvements that will guide the Board should they decide to proceed.
We hope you can join us for both meetings and encourage you to bring friends and neighbors. For more information, please contact Dave Kuschel, MRH director of communications, at 644-4400.
