Leaders in Learning

Our expedition at Sherwood Forest Camp is a three-day program designed to enhance students' awareness of natural science, math, natural history, environmental education, group dynamics and problem solving skills. In addition, the program helps students build self-esteem, increase self-awareness, enhance communication and social skills and promote independence. Students learn essential life skills through field  experiences and programs. Students learn together, to respect all people and our environment, build strong relationships, accept personal responsibility, solve problems cooperatively, resolve conflicts peacefully, and be positive leaders through service to others.  Sherwood Forest, activities will include: climbing the tango tower, land art, nature hikes, nature scavenger hunt, orienteering, tie dying, animal tracking, team building initiatives games, and visiting both Elephant Rocks Park and Johnson Shut Ins.

The Enduring Understandings for this expedition are:
• Learning occurs both individually as well as cooperatively.
• Reflecting upon our observations and experiences with nature connects us to our surroundings.
• The whole is better than the sum of the parts.

The Essential Questions are:
• Is it better to be independent or united?
• How does where we live influence how we live?
• What is the difference between things that happen to us and things we make?
